Mauritius to welcome International Tourism Conference

Mauritius will welcome the inaugural International Tourism Conference in this year.

The event will take place from May 23rd-24th at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre.

The International Tourism Conference will be the premier event market leading international business-to-business platform to promote the global tourism sector.

The event will be a two-day conference and exhibition and it will be focused on the development of tourism within the Indian Ocean region, Africa and some pertinent global issues.

One of the highlights of our Conference will be its 360-degree approach in tackling and discussing issues.

It will provide a holistic view of the current and future global, regional and local situations by gathering thought-provoking feedback from multiple sources and different levels of the hierarchy in the tourism, travel and hospitality industries.

Over the last decades, the global tourism industry has shown virtually uninterrupted growth despite occasional market turmoil.

This growth has generated great benefits to economies and societies across the globe.

It has endowed countries with investment, foreign earnings, job creations and opportunities, leading to social inclusion and regional development.

In 2016, the tourism industry contributed US$2.3 trillion and 109 million jobs worldwide.

Taking its wider indirect impact into consideration, the sector was estimated to have been accountable to US$7.6 trillion to the global economy and supported 292 million jobs in 2016.

This was equal to 10.2 per cent of the world’s GDP and approximately one out of every ten jobs.

However, this growth is a double-edged sword: the tourism industry is full of opportunities but also involves great challenges.

With increasing global competition, every destination needs to be constantly learning and reinventing itself in order to be sustainable and dynamic.

There is a continuous need to identify and explore growing outbound tourism markets and tap into these new opportunities.

It is also essential to focus on unique selling points which have enabled destinations to offer unconventional tourism experiences.

The first International Tourism Conference of Mauritius, an event organised by IC Publications UK and Daiichi Mauritius under the patronage of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, will explore insights to these pertinent questions.
